How St. Luke’s Freed Up 7,800+ Patient Days—Unlocking $7.9M in Capacity in One Year

A 0.28-day LOS reduction across 11 hospitals translated to meaningful capacity gains—without adding staff.

St. Luke’s University Health Network wanted to improve discharge flow, create more inpatient capacity, and reduce inefficiencies in post-acute care transitions. What they needed was clear, objective data on where their workflow could be optimized.

With Aidin, St. Luke’s created a real-time, shared operational view of every discharge—so teams could move beyond documenting delays to act on them. This shift helped teams reduce average length of stay, improve PAC accountability, and uncover meaningful cost-saving opportunities.

Unlike traditional referral tools that document discharge activity, Aidin enables real-time coordination across care teams and post-acute partners—so delays can be identified and resolved as they happen.

"Aidin helped us increase efficiency and reduce LOS while also making it easier to run reports to adjust processes and make improvements continuously.”

Former Regional Director of Inpatient Care Management

"We brought on Aidin because we knew we had inefficiencies in our care management workflow, but we didn’t have objective data to show where in that workflow things were going wrong and where things could be improved.”

Former Regional Director of Inpatient Care Management

“Many of our hospitals achieved greatly improved performance for ALOS in FY2023, and we attribute that largely to how Aidin changed our workflow and reduced inefficiencies.”

        The Challenge

St. Luke’s needed to improve capacity across its network. Leadership knew there were inefficiencies in post-acute care workflows, but they lacked the structured insights and seamless platform to clearly identify where delays were happening or how to fix them.

The health system needed a stronger case management and referral management solution that could help optimize post-acute transitions, reduce average length of stay, and support better patient throughput across the organization.

        The Solution

In 2022, St. Luke’s partnered with Aidin to support discharge planning and Medicare regulatory compliance workflows, including IMM and MOON forms.

Using Aidin, the health system was able to:

        ● Expedite discharges to post-acute care.

        ● Gain visibility into bottlenecks in the discharge process.

        ● Drive accountability internally with staff and externally with            post-acute partners.

        ● Benchmark PACs against other Aidin organizations and                    identify which PAC partners were underperforming.

        ● Give patients better information when choosing a PAC                      provider.

Aidin’s bi-directional Epic integration also removed manual upload steps and made it easier for case managers to share relevant clinical information with post-acute providers at discharge. Management teams gained direct access to status and compliance reports, while frontline users received a clearer view of where each patient was in the transition process.
